Outages are Complicated
Doesn’t seem like that should be true, but sometimes it can be. Our uptime monitor checks your site’s availability. Other services will do that too, and your hosting provider may well offer outage notifications.
But there’s a little more to it than that. Not all outages are the same. When dealing with them, or recovering from them, details matter. Scarecrow exists to give you those details, and help you solve problems as they arise.
What if your site’s server is up, running perfectly, but…
- Your database isn’t working properly?
- Your site is only available from certain locations?
- Your hosting provider’s DNS is broken?
- Your provider’s internet connection is down?
- Somebody changed your site’s content without telling/asking you first?
Scarecrow gives you a chance to specify content that should be present at URLs you specify. This is super useful when that content lives in a database (such as with WordPress or another content management system). And ALSO when changes happened without your knowledge, for whatever reason.

On top of that, Scarecrow checks your website directly, creating hourly snapshots of your site’s files. If any of your files have been modified, you will be notified and a new backup will be automatically scheduled.
